Caregiver assessment & training.

Every caregiver with A First Name Basis goes through our 21-point evaluation and training program:

Evaluation

  1. Personal interview to determine
    qualifications, experience, and skill set.
  2. Independent verification of professional
    caregiving references.
  3. Employment eligibility verification.
  4. Caregiver competency examination based
    on emergency situations and other scenarios
    in home care.
  5. Interview to evaluate five personality
    dimensions, to help ensure caregiver-client
    compatibility.
  6. HIPAA review: Exam and education covering
    patient privacy and patient rights.
  7. Integrity and ethics testing.
  8. Physical capabilities assessment.

Screening

  1. Nationwide criminal background check.
  2. Nationwide sex offender check.
  3. Periodic drug testing.
  4. State Office of Inspector General fraud and
    exclusions check.
  5. Driver safety quiz and DMV check (including
    verification of a valid state driver’s license).
  6. Verification of current personal auto
    insurance and up-to-date state car
    registration.

Training

  1. Education regarding bloodborne illness and
    other pathogens.
  2. Fall prevention certification program.
  3. 16+ hours of continuing education annually.
  4. First aid training.
  5. CPR certification.
  6. Alzheimer’s and dementia care training,
    including the Virtual Dementia Tour®, which
    aids understanding and improves care.
  7. Caregiver orientation and exam on policies
    and procedures of A First Name Basis.
